New Inclusive Playground Brings Joy and Accessibility to Bulloch County

Bulloch County residents now have an ADA-compliant playground close to home thanks in part to support from Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America and Hyundai Motor North America (HMNA).

Each year the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Bulloch class undertakes a community project and in 2024, they discovered the need for an inclusive playground that would serve children of all abilities. At the time, the closest adaptive playground was an hour away in Savannah – too far for many families of children with special needs.

The Leadership Bulloch class quickly got to work raising money and reached out to HMGMA for help.

We along with HMNA sponsored the playground’s ADA-compliant turf that allows for safe and smooth mobility. Afterall, Hyundai’s mission of advancing mobility doesn’t just mean building vehicles.

Other playground features include high-back swings with harnesses, a wheelchair accessible merry-go-round, a roller slide designed to avoid interference with cochlear implants, and a paved tricycle track that was inspired by AMBUCS’ therapeutic AmTrykes.

The Bulloch County community along with HMGMA and dozens of local businesses and individuals gathered on October 1 to cut the ribbon and officially open the playground.

HMGMA Chief Administrative Officer Brent Stubbs was among those who joined the celebration.

“Hyundai is about mobility, and this project creates a special kind of mobility for young people who otherwise wouldn’t have it,” he told the crowd.

The playground is open to the public and is located at the Statesboro Family YMCA at 409 Clairborne Avenue in Statesboro.
